 Parish Needs

We Minister to Each Other

The revised liturgy reflects the idea that the entire community ministers to each other at the liturgy or Mass. Thus, we have several ministries evident at Sunday Mass. We need the following:

+ Ministers of the Word or Lectors
Otherwise known as the reader, the lector reads the lesson from Sacred Scripture, except the Gospel, in the Mass and in other sacred celebrations; recites the psalms between the readings in absence of the psalmist; presents the intentions for general intercessions when the deacon or cantor is absent; and may also direct the congregation in the singing. Lectors need a good voice to proclaim before a congregation.

+ Ministers of the Eucharist
Ministers of the Eucharist assist in distributing the communion during Mass.

+ Ministers of Hospitality or Ushers/Greeters
Ministers of Hospitality welcome people as the gather for Mass, assist in handing out any worship aids and help direct people to their seats. They also take up the collection and help direct the congregation during communion.

+ Servers or Acolytes
The server's duty is to attend to the service of the altar and to assist as needed in the celebration of the Mass, especially during the Eucharistic liturgy. Servers can be adults, as well as youth – a couple or family can serve.

We also have a music ministry, which is doing well but can always use volunteer leaders of song or choir members. See Andrew Cyr, our music director, if you are interested.

At this time, we ask each parishioner to consider one of these ministries. We can work around your schedule to find the Mass that is most convenient for you. With enough volunteers, you may only have to serve at one Sunday Mass a month—except for the ushers, who usually come to one Mass each Sunday. We publish the schedule every few months so you know in advance.

Once we gather all the names, we will schedule training sessions to prepare you for your ministry, and then at some point, install you at one of the Sunday Masses. Now is the time to come forward. Call Fr. Alex Santora at the rectory or e-mail him at
padrealex@yahoo.com. Please be sure to leave your contact information.

 Parish Task Forces

The pastor has called for parishioners to volunteer on task forces to plan for the future of OLG. Committees with parishioners experienced in the fields of business, finance, legal, maintenance, property management, personnel and human resources meet infrequently.

Please call the rectory or e-mail
padrealex@yahoo.com and leave your contact information for more details.

 Young Adults of OLG
The Young Adults of OLG welcomes 20-40 year-old parishioners to join the group.

Our vision is to enrich the lives of other young adults through various social and faith-based activities and to give back to the community through service initiatives.

Our mission is to provide fellowship to other young adults, develop strong relationships within the community, and advocate faith and charity.
